“Out of Adversity Comes Opportunity…..”

A comprehensive reflection from discussions by Cindy Gallop

I recently fell in love with Cindy Gallop in a recent “The Wing” discussion moderated by Joyce Chang. In it she discusses how we have the opportunity to invent the future right now. NOW! in a time that the future is so grim and unknown and right NOW! when most of us are looking for work/income and many of us are sick or dying.

A short introduction to Cindy Gallop:

She, “likes to blow shit up!” and considers herself “The Michael Bay of business….”

MIC DROP!

Ms. Gallop is a woman who has mastered the poker face and has managed to do so with her own cultural diversity, the empathy of a woman, deep passion to change the future, and the personality of an aggressive winning male lawyer.

Cindy graduated with a “no fucks” attitude and an English major from Somerville College, Oxford. Out the door Cindy followed her desires and began a “love affair with theater.” Her love affair with theatre steered her into becoming a theatre publicist and marketer in the UK for several years. She later discovered how much of a BOSS she is and that she could “sell ice to an Eskimo.” Thus, began her creation of becoming a female legend and leader in:

Marketing, Branding, Business Innovator, Keynote Speaker, and Advertising.

The first thing Cindy mentions in almost all her lectures that I have previewed: (1) the progressions she discusses speak to “DIVERSITY” in totality but have a deep focus on the enhancements that Women have/bring. (2) “change” is applicable in any circumstance or career. She says, “just focus on anything that is currently run by a group of all men and reinvent it completely.”

WORKING THE WAY YOU WANT NOW & BEYOND CORONAVIRUS

Cindy Gallop moderated by: Joyce Chang and hosted by: The Wing

Her recent talk left me inspired and grinning at what I think tomorrow can look like. She asks comprehensive questions that leave you daydreaming and delving into yourself.

Gallop begins the lecture by asking us to take a deep breath and long hard look at:

“What do you stand for?”

“What do you believe in?”

What am I all About?

Because knowing your values, begins the process of understanding what you want in life, and who you want in your life. These answers will also help lead you into the changes you want to be a part of and show you where your passions truly lie.

Then she goes on to say:

“Now is the time for innovation to emerge and to solve the problems that we are facing.”

“We have the unique opportunity to rebalance the value equation”

Who’s work/services get valued

Who gets paid what….

I mean isn’t this what the pandemic is all about? I am blessed with the fortune to be writing this today in the comfort of my home while others were dealt a different stack of cards. The differences that separate us are: confidence, circumstances, and the understanding of our potential.

Another major F*C% Trump! Or anyone else who says that immigrants are taking over our American jobs and $$, I call bullshit! Immigrants are doing the dirty work that none of us really want in order to provide for themselves and families. And they do it with no dignity or respect. Since before the pandemic I’ve always tried to say Thank You to any worker “especially custodians” for their services. Services like store managers, gas station attendees, plumbers….. These PEOPLE all have shit jobs and are cleaning shit! These are people with flesh, blood, feelings, brains and everything else you and I have, their circumstances are just different. We have a right to value ourselves but the ancient form of male dominant $$ system hierarchy needs to be abolished now and reconstructed like the constant CDC changes of the food pyramid.

An underlining issue that I see is the ridiculous need of outsourcing… Listen, F$C# anyone in our history, post WWII, who allowed 80% of US goods to be outsourced… LIKE WHY! We have local businesses, space and human potential here that require nurturing, respect, and value. And if you are one of the assholes who prefers low cost over values , quality or principles please move to a red state and do your own solo thing. Walmart will always be there for you, but I prefer other sources.

What am I all about? ART and DESIGN and COMPASSION and WOMEN. These are key elements to what I believe will change the future. Greed and the human laziness that is destroying the planet needs to be burned in a global bonfire. People with a like-mind to this are the people I want to surround myself with, and people I believe in.

As you can see Cindy’s reflections and believes have had me thinking and journaling for days. I have to admit that right now, while I am “busy” I have no idea what I am really doing and am a bit frightened. I mean here is a brief insight:

In January, I finally finished my website for a solo career I have been “making up,” and forging my way into.

In February I just flew back from my first solo career/business trips to (1) Paris for “Paris Deco-Off” and “Maison Objet” design trade shows. And (2) then immediately flew to LA where I was Production Designer in one of the most exhausting emotional and physical projects of my life. #Fuzzyheadfilm … so money in the bank…. OYE! And body and mind took ages to recover. But I wouldn’t change a thing….

And then in March I was finally getting “seen” and started my blawg. Then the pandemic hit and I am left re-processing how to fuse my writing and creative career so to make this my future living.

I don’t have all the answers right now. But for now I have faith and comfort in the fact that our world has strong women like Cindy Gallop. I also will keep up my spiritual practice of “To Be Magnetic” from Lacy Phillips… One Step At A Time….

*side note: Today ironically, the day I am devoting to this post, Megan Markey gave me a mini reading on FB and pulled: “that I am an artist with writing as a medium but that I may be flipflopping between being lit up by business/marketing and creative writing projects…. And both are good for me.” SPOOKY! And thank you.
